Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis loves the holiday season. But, spending her first Christmas without her mom, Allison Calhoun Dennis, is causing the 28-year-old to experience some serious nostalgia and feelings of loss.
Allison – a descendant of John C. Calhoun, the seventh Vice President of the United States – passed away on August 7th at the age of 59 after an extended illness. Kathryn took to Twitter this week to remember her mom after finding an old picture of Allison with her father, Luke Dennis.

“Just found this picture of my mom and dad…The resemblance is crazy!” tweeted Kathryn. “Man I miss her.”
The mom-of-two told People magazine back in April that she was “incredibly close” to her mom, and she also described Allison as her “best friend.” She explained that her mom had stuck by her through a lot, and she didn’t know what she would do without her.
Allison battled cancer for a year-and-a-half, and she ended up moving in with Kathryn during her illness. Kathryn took care of her mom during that time, but Allison also helped out with her grandkids, Kensie, 5, and Saint, 4. Kathryn called her mom “amazing,” and added that she is the best mom she could ever hope for.
Kathryn spent her first Thanksgiving without Allison at her business partner Donna Steele’s North Carolina home, and she said the celebration would be huge because Steele has a big family.
“You know, when your mom is gone you have to come up with new traditions,” said Kathryn.

She hasn’t revealed her Christmas plans yet, and it’s possible her kids won’t be with her after she finalized her custody agreement with Thomas Ravenel. The former couple agreed to share joint legal and physical custody of Kensie and Saint, but Ravenel is the primary custodian.
Kathryn Dennis says she feels good to be finally moving forward after the long custody battle. She said she felt like they had been at a standstill, and her whole life was stunted from that. However, now that it’s all over, Kathryn feels like a huge weight has been lifted.
