These photos of Jamie Dornan running are getting a lot of play on the blogs today, and I’m not really sure why. I don’t remember any big running scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey, and it’s pretty obvious Jamie is in character in these photos as Christian Grey. Why is Christian running? Is he running away from his terrible past? Is he running to Anastasia Steele? Is he running because he feels too much? Is he running towards a whip? We won’t know until we see the film. I suspect that Sam Taylor-Wood is using “Christian’s running” scenes as some sort of artsy evidence of his inner turmoil and angst.
While I was definitely pro-Dornan when he was announced as Christian Grey, the more photos I see of him in character, the less jazzed I am. I mean, he’s cute and everything. But this character has made a naturally hot man seem rather bland and vanilla. Give him some scruff or something! Make him jog shirtless. Something.
I’m also including the recently-released first poster for Fifty Shades. This is a better poster than the film deserves, I strongly suspect. It’s perfectly anticipatory, I like the boldness of not using Jamie’s face (or Dakota Johnson’s face, because she’s not even here, but we, the viewers, take her place), and I like the coldness of the image. This is a really messed up dude, remember?
