The sports world is full of athletes that don’t just share traditional sports rivalry but familial rivalry too such as the Manning brothers, Harbaugh brothers, Bryan brothers, and the Williams sisters. Can you count the Singletarys in this list?

Despite the fact that the pair of sports stars share a last name, Devin and Mike Singletary are not related. Mike was born and raised in Houston, Texas, by Rudell and Charles Singletary while Devin hails from Deerfield Beach, Florida, and is the son of Sabrina Clark and Devonn Sr.

Though they’re both in the professional American football arena and have the same last name, that’s about all that Devin and Mike Singletary have in common. Here is what you need to know about Mike and Devin Singletary.

Who is Mike Singletary?

Mike Singletary is a professional American football coach and award-winning former linebacker. The football legend was on 9 October 1958 in Houston, Texas, and was the last of 10 children Rudell Singletary and her street preacher husband Charles Singletary.

Growing up Mike was a sickly child and his childhood was strewn with tragedy. One of his brothers, Dale Singletary, unexpectedly passed away at the young age of 20 after unknowingly inhaling toxic fumes from a coal stove while he slept and Mike’s relationship with his father began to fall apart.

Due to the deterioration of his relationship with his father, another of Mike’s older brothers named Grady stepped up as a father figure and had a hugely positive impact on the youngster’s life. Devastatingly, Grady lost his life at the tender age of 22 years old as he was killed in a six-car pileup caused by a drunken driver.

Mike attended Evan E. Worthing Highschool and became a football star for the school’s football team. He earned himself a scholarship at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he earned All-America honors and made team records.

After a massively successful career, Mike stepped off the field to help his wife Kim raise their seven children before returning to the football world as a coach. Throughout his coaching career, he has been a linebackers coach for both the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers.

He also coached for the Memphis Express and the Los Angeles Rams before moving on to coach for the Trinity Christian Academy in 2018 where he remained for two seasons.

Who is Devin Singletary?

Devin Singletary is an American football star that plays the position of running back and goes by the well-deserved nickname of ‘Motor’. He was born on 3 September 1997 to parents Devonn Singletary Sr.  and Sabrina Clark in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Because he is a relatively private man, little is known about Devin’s childhood but what is known is that he grew up being close friends with Lamar Jackson. The pair lived less than ten minutes from one another and would play football together often.

The promising football star attended Delray Beach’s American Heritage High School before heading up to Florida Atlantic University. Devin’s motivation to succeed as a football player is driven by the loss of his high school teammate, friend, and mentor Greg Bryant who died of a gunshot wound in 2016.
